Skype is a popular VOIP implementation that you can use to communicate over the Internet. You can video conference (with multiple people), talk, and chat. And with the right Skype plugins, you can setup a personal assistant, view remote computers, setup a virtual desktop camera, and integrate Skype with Outlook. With their distributed API and active developer base, it seems that the possiblilities of its uses are endless (at least within the VOIP realm).
I currently use Skype on my Pocket PC Phone. This allows me to talk for free as long as I have a WiFi connection. This means I can use my phone in areas that I do not have a Sprint PCS connection!
